Password-Based Authentication

Overview #

The Password-Based Authentication Module enables network access through static or scheduled passwords, configurable via the Admin Portal. This method is ideal for controlled environments where access needs to be limited to users who have been provided a specific password.

There are two password types:

1. Static Passwords – A fixed password with a unique redirect URL.
2. Password Subscriptions – Scheduled passwords that change daily, weekly, or monthly with automatic email notifications to subscribers. These can also be displayed via a public URL.

1. User Login Process #

1. The user selects the Guest WiFi network.
2. They are redirected to the Captive Portal, where they enter the provided password.
3. Before proceeding, the user must accept the Terms and Conditions and acknowledge the Privacy Policy.
4. If the password is valid, the user gains network access.
5. The user is redirected to a predefined URL set by the administrator.
6. If the password is a scheduled password, it will automatically update based on the configured retention period (daily, weekly, or monthly).

2. Configuration & Customization #

Administrators can configure the Password-Based Authentication Module through the Admin Portal with the following options:

🔹 Viewing & Managing Password Logins #

📌 Sign In Administration → Sign In Modules → Password Logins

• View login history, including timestamps, password type, and active sessions.
• Monitor usage trends and detect unauthorized access attempts.

🔹 Configuring Captive Portal UI & Redirect Settings #

📌 Sign In Administration → Login Portal → Portal Configurations → Password Access Settings

• Customize the login page text, including instructions, branding, and user prompts.
• Modify the redirect URL where users are sent after authentication (each password can have a unique redirect).

🔹 Creating & Managing Static Passwords #

📌 Sign In Administration → Password Management → Create New Password

• Define a fixed password for users to access the network.
• Set a custom redirect URL per password.
• Enable a public URL to display the password publicly.

🔹 Configuring Scheduled Passwords (Password Subscription) #

📌 Sign In Administration → Password Management → Subscription Settings

• Set automatic password changes on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
• Define password complexity requirements (capital letters, numbers, special characters).
• Add email subscribers to receive notifications ahead of password updates.
• Enable a public URL to display the updated password automatically.

🔹 Configuring Terms and Conditions & Privacy Policy Acceptance #

• Define and update Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy that users must accept before authentication.
• Ensure compliance with legal and corporate policies by enforcing acceptance before granting access.

3. Security & Compliance Considerations #

• User Consent Requirement – Users must explicitly accept the Terms and Conditions and acknowledge the Privacy Policy before authentication can proceed.
• Scheduled Password Expiry – Password subscriptions automatically rotate based on admin-defined retention periods.
• Password Complexity Control – Admins can enforce password strength by requiring capital letters, numbers, and special characters.
• Public URL Management – Admins can enable or disable public password display, ensuring security compliance.
• Logging & Auditing – The system records all password-based logins for compliance and security monitoring.
